The weighted average will determine your letter grade roughly as follows:
A >= 90%; B >= 80%; C >= 70%; D >= 60%; F < 60%
+/- grades will be given for borderline cases. I.e., a score of 92% might result in an A-.
During the lectures we will use slides as well as the
board. The instructors will take pictures of the board during the lectures. Those pictures
as well as the slides will be available on the webpage, such that you can
see what has been covered if you happen to have missed a class.
There is however no guarantee that the pictures will be complete.
Final Project: Creative Computing Application
Students will be given an introduction to basic programming concepts using the easily accessible programming
language Scratch. Using this as a basis, students will work individually or in teams to design an animation or
game that teaches some concept to a middle schooler.
Example projects topics will be presented in class. But students are encouraged to come up with their own topic, in consultation with the instructors.
Activities:
Short activities will be designed to give students the opportunity to play with applications relating to each week's
topic. Students must complete at least 2 activities for credit.
Maker Workshop:
On November 3, students will participate in a hands-on maker workshop hosted by Jenna deBoisblanc. Students will build an electronic music instrument called the "makey makey monome".
