The following is a tentative list of topics to be covered.

Read research paper, present it, critique it

Grading:

The three major milestones of this class are two read and present two research papers, and a writeup of the student's research interests and directions. Throughout the semester there will be smaller assignments. Active participation in class is expected. Grading will be based on the following weighted scale:

20% Read and present research paper 1
20% Read and present research paper 2
20% Research writeup
40% Other assignments and class participation

The weighted average will determine your letter grade roughly as follows: A >= 90%; B >= 80%; C >= 70%; D >= 60%; F < 60%

+/- grades will be given for borderline cases.

Slides and Pictures:

During the lectures we will use slides as well as the board. The instructor will take pictures of the board during the lectures. Those pictures as well as the slides will be available on the webpage, such that you can see what has been covered if you happen to have missed a class. There is however no guarantee that the pictures will be complete.
